One Month Down, Eternity to Go!

Sascha and I have officially been at this whole marriage thing for a whole month, and what a crazy month it has been.

Here's what we've been up to:
  • Sascha went to band camp with the BYU Cougar Marching Band
  • Sascha started his classes, and his earliest one is 10am, which is fantastic because we get to sleep in
  • I got a job working as a nanny for a super awesome family
  • Sascha joined the turkey club by bowling 3 strikes in a row during his bowling class
  • I got a free game of bowling for getting 2 strikes in a row with the granny bowl at fatcatz
  • I've decided that Costa Vida is actually the greatest food. ever.
  • We survived our first trip to IKEA (and got an awesome futon out of it)
  • We finally got our records moved to our new ward, and I think we'll really like it there
  • Being called Sister Vogel at church is equal parts awesome and weird
  • Sascha played in an Ultimate Frisbee 3v3 tournament, and won the sky machine (who can jump the highest) for his height.
  • I was supposed to play on a 3v3 team for the frisbee wives, but got really sick the morning of
  • Altitude sickness has been kicking my butt (at least, that's what we think it is)
  • Sascha is playing on an intramural ultimate frisbee team that consists mostly of people from Georgia, called Peach Perfect
  • We went to our first college football game, Sascha with the band and I in the student section
  • We've watched 2 seasons of the show Heroes and are close to being done with season 3

and because I just love bulleted lists, here are 3 things that we have each learned in our whopping one month of marriage.

Kami:
  • I kiss better than I cook
  • You have to pick you battles, and most of them aren't worth fighting
  • Laughter truly is the best medicine, and I married the funniest man out there
Sascha:
  •  You can't just think about yourself anymore
  •  No matter how mad we are, we still love each other
  •  It's hard

and Bonus!! Here are some of my favorite pictures from the wedding! (and by some, I mean a lot)

I love this day, I love my husband, and I love my marriage.
This has been the greatest month of my life, and I can't wait for oh so many more.

The HoneyMove

Now that we finally have Wifi in our new apartment, I can finally post!!! So for starters, we got married!! WOO. but I will post more about that later once I have more time. Let's start for now with the drive back out to Utah. With band camp for Sascha starting on Monday, we decided to combine the drive with our honeymoon for now, giving you The HoneyMove.

This is gong to be a short post, because the drive was super uneventful and boring. We got away with no tickets this time, and I of course slept for most of it. Sascha was amazing enough to do most of the driving.  We drove from my parent's home in Aiken, SC to Topeka, KS the first day, and then we made it to Provo, UT the next.

and to make up for the absolute lack of anything exciting in this post, have an awesome video.

Engagement Pictures

Sascha and I were so incredibly lucky to get Traci Monson to shoot our engagement photos here in my hometown of Aiken, South Carolina.   Here are some of my favorites :)

I love these pictures almost as much as I love the man in them, it was hard just choosing a handful as "favorites". You can go check them all out on either mine, or Sascha's facebook accounts!!

Kami and Sascha go to the Zoo!

(Shoutout to the Zoo Atlanta employee who can't work a camera)
Being in a long distance relationship sucks, being in a long distance engagement really sucks, but Sascha and I try to make the most of it and see each other as much as possible and do as many things as we can together this summer. Including but not limited trips to the zoo.  The zoo is probably one of my all time favorite places. I love animals and I love being able to see them so up-close.

Sascha and I had a lot of fun at the zoo, even though it was pouring down rain over half the time and by the time we got done both of us could hardly walk our feet hurt so bad.

At first the rain super bummed me out because I thought all the animals would go inside to get out of the rain, but watching lions, gorillas, and giraffes play around in the pouring down rain probably made this one of the best zoo trips I have ever had. (Especially the giraffes, watching them run is almost surreal and cartoon like)

Not my favorite moment at all, but the biggest moment for me was feeding the birds. If you know me, you know that I have an irrational fear of the feathered spawns of satan, and yet I managed to get close enough to feed one, and I even have a smile on my face.

Sascha's favorite part though was hands down the reptile house, we spent about half of our time at the zoo there, so a little over an hour. I will never understand this guys love for the scaly and slimy, but he sure does adore the creatures.

The Proposal!

Sascha asked me to be all his for all of eternity and this is how it all went down!!

Kami's Side:

First things first, I knew something was up because Sascha wanted to go out to dinner. Don't get me wrong, I love food you don't have to cook yourself just as much as the next person, but Sascha and I are not, and never have been the dinner date kind of couple, so I knew something was up. It also didn't help when Sascha handed me his phone to put in the address for the restaurant he then got a text from his best friend that said Good Luck tonight man!! (way to go Graham!) After eating at one of Sascha's favorite Japanese places, complete with all the white sauce we could eat, he took me down to the riverwalk.

We were walking around the riverwalk for a while, every time we stopped I could just feel my heart speed up. Finally we stopped by the water. I was facing towards the river and Sascha came up behind me and put his arms around me. He hold me tight while telling me about how glad he is that we are together, how much he loves me, how he couldn't imagine his life without me. He goes on to tell me that I am everything he has ever wanted in a person and that he wanted to spend the rest of forever with me. Sascha turned me around to face him, takes a step back, gets down on one knee, looks up and says, "Hold on, I have to tie my shoe".  (I'm pretty sure I even saw him untie it in the car just so he could do it!)

After this point I don't know if I was too busy seeing red and being mad I let the punk trick me, or if I had just assumed it wasn't happening that night and stopped paying attention to detail, but what happened next is all a bit blurry in my memory. All I know is that about 15 minutes later I was screaming YES! and he was putting the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen on my finger. It didn't really hit me what had just happened until the car ride home. We had called the people who had needed to know, and updated facebook for everyone else, and then when the busyness faded and reality set in, Bam. I get to marry my best friend. I just looked over at Sascha, who had the biggest, goofiest, smile on his face, and my heart melted and the tears started to pour.

I am so lucky that he picked me. Sascha is my best friend and I still can't believe that I get to spend forever and then some with him.

Sascha's Side:

So we started the night by going to eat Japanese food. Afterwards, I took her to the Riverwalk and we started to walk around. I was scared out of my mind to be completely honest. So we're walking around and talking and just enjoying each other's company when we stopped for a while. I saw the opprotunity and I took it. I turned her to face me, then I got on one knee....and tied my shoe. I got back up and we started walking again. So we decided to sit down on a swing and just look at the river and talk some more. I'm still scared out of my mind at this point. Like, I know she's gonna say yes, but I'm still scared. So we walk a little more and I finally got the courage to stop her, get down on my knee and ask her to marry me. Of course she said yes. Who wouldn't say yes to this? Hahaha (Can you tell which one of us is the writer?? haha!)
